About Me

My name is Alison Reid, an Endorsed Midwife and Registered Nurse with four grown-up children, and I have been involved with birthing families in one way or another for more than 30 years. I often supported women in birth before having a wonderful birth myself with a private midwife in 1994. Then I decided it was time to make it official and completed my Bachelor of Nursing at QUT in 1997, followed by my Graduate Diploma in Midwifery at ACU in 2000. Since then I have worked in the public hospital maternity system, indigenous health and with private clients.

These days I am doing my favourite kind of work, which is providing personalised pregnancy, birth and post-natal care to families who wish continuity of care with their own midwife. I offer antenatal care, birth care and support, postnatal care and childbirth education in any combination that suits the mother. I also include breastfeeding and parenting support and information - anything that families need to help integrate their baby smoothly into their lives. My service includes the whole family (because you are all vitally interested in this new little family member!) and my focus is on the birthing woman as the centre of all decision-making.

I am passionately interested in cross-cultural health care, languages and dancing and anything which connects me to the wide, wonderful world and the fascinating humans who live there.
